Ice Stock history
The very first written proof of Ice Stock game comes from 1192 when Ice Stock was played on the frozen Danube river by Vienna. The first proof of Ice Stock sport being practised stems from a 16th-century painting by Belgian painter Pieter Brueghel. Since the 1930’s, the Ice Stock is organized.
In 1934 a German federation was established. Ice stock was demonstration sport for winter Olympic game in 1936 and 1964. Unfortunately, this sport has never made it to the official Olympics sport.
‘Ice stock’ is also known as ‘Bavarian curling’ or ‘Icestockschiessen’. Ice stock is very similar to curling, or ‘Pentague’. Ice Stock is often played in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy and the Czech Republic.
